Yes, you read that correctly. The Global Citizen Festival is returning to Central Park on Saturday, September 26th, for its fourth annual free concert. This year, Global Citizen presents Pearl Jam, Beyonce, Ed Sheeran, and Coldplay to a crowd capacity of 60,000 music and peace enthusiasts.
Fans can earn free tickets by taking actions to end extreme poverty on globalcitizen.org. On the website, five different “Action Journeys” will be released between now and September 16th with different social media scavenger hunts built to tackle a handful of global issues. Once a user completes each “Action Journey,” their user information will be submitted into a raffle pool for a chance to win a pair of tickets to the event.
Last years performance (aerial picture above) included Jay-Z, No Doubt, Carrie Underwood, Fun., The Roots, and Tiesto. Beyonce even graced the stage during her husband’s set with a surprise performance (HQ video clip below). To kick off the festival, the newly elected President of India, Narendra Mondi, took the stage for a seven minute speech and ended with the classic Star Wars quote: “May the force be with you.”
The Global Poverty Project, an international education and advocacy organization, throws the event each year to flying colors and positive reviews. This year is stacked to be another memorable year, so don’t miss your chance to not only catch some great performances, but also make an effort of change!
