Just a couple days ago, Catskill Chill issued an announcement for the announcement of its 2016 lineup. On Tuesday, May 3rd, the festival will reveal its initial artist lineup for the inaugural event at its new home in “New Minglewood.” This means “Blind Faith” tickets will only be available until May 2nd, so make sure to get your passes before prices bump up at this link. While we will sorely miss Camp Minglewood (above, I spy my campsite), we’re thrilled to experience the new magic awaiting us at its new home in Lakewood, PA.
In anticipation of Tuesday’s grand reveal, I decided to do some digging to shed light on the biggest mystery surrounding the upcoming festival: what exactly is this new place, New Minglewood? Well, the new address, 2656 Upper Woods Road in Lakewood, Pennsylvania, matches with a private co-ed Modern Orthodox summer camp called Camp Lavi. I felt like a pedophile doing this, but earlier today I rifled though pictures of little kids at Camp Lavi to start painting a picture of New Minglewood. During this process, I figured out Camp Lavi was the host venue of Campfire Outdoor Adventure Music & Arts Festival in 2014, which was hosted for three nights by Zippo (the lighter company). Below find some of the pictures and videos I scraped up from both Campfire and Lavi, and make sure to read two day-by-day reviews of Campfire, written by Charged and Appalachian Jamwich.
Aerial view of Camp Lavi New Minglewood’s only two and half hours driving from Zoo York City. Hoopers at Camp Levi during 2014’s Campfire Festival. Note the beachfront cabin in the background. This reeks of Catskill Chill. I like. Really hope this inflatable death trap returns to Minglewood. Bonfire set up used at Campfire in 2014.
The Adam Ezra Group performing at Campfire. Check out the open-air stage. Trees on trees as a backdrop. Camp HQ. Apparently it’s a Disc Golf accessible camp ground. Disc Jam anyone? (tickets here) This seems like a disaster waiting to happen, but could be fun for the sober few. Flow sessions on the beach! And yoga sessions at an indoor studio. New Minglewood can accomadate all sorts of hoopers. Lots and lots of space to relax and dream… and relax and cream? Let’s pray to the Chill Gods for a beautiful sunset like this one. “I went to a festival this weekend, and now all my money’s gone” – said everyone, ever. Is it just me, or are there free Vita Coco stands at everyone music festival on the planet? The farthest thing from chill, but oh so much fun. To be honest, that pond looks nasty, so happy we’re offered this squeaky clean alternative. Already picturing Twiddle up on that stage. Delta Spirit doing their thang. For those of you who have no idea what this is, as I did at first before reaching out, this is an indoor venue, and these people are dancing. And this is their DJ. Man feeds goat acid and turns animal into transdimensional space goat. Not sure wha this is, but it looks important. So. Many. Activities. B-b-b-b-b-b-Bon Fire! Kick ball anyone? A Shady Horn? Dibs on the big cabin to the right! Lamping and camping. Duks ’til dawn at the main stage. So much room for activities. Can jahmin, mahn. Campire had a skate park, but that was the past, and this is the future. Hover board park, anyone? **farts** Porch life Will there be a petting zoo at New Minglewood? There was one at Campfire! Langhorne Slim at the Campfire main stage. Kayaker on the pond at Camp Lavi during Campfire. Again, really hoping this will be opened for Catskill Chill. This seems … safe. Will there be a skate park at New Minglewood? Pat & the Hats perform on the porch of a cabin at Campfire. The gates to the festival grounds.
