Tonight in New York City, Boston-based experimental rock trio lespecial welcomes the 7th anniversary of their annual Lespectacle music extravaganza at the Brooklyn Bowl. Traditionally scheduled around the Autumnal Equinox in late September, this year Lespectacle 7 will embrace the spirit of Halloween with its best musical lineup to date, the finest venue of the event’s 7-year history, stage design by The Reliquarium, and visuals by Vin Pugliese. After announcing Lespectacle 7, the band wrote this note to their followers:
“Halloween night in Brooklyn NY we turn the legendary Brooklyn Bowl into a psychedelic, haunted circus for #lespectacle, a Pagan inspired multi-media mini-fest. Join us as we create an interactive space combining a dramatic, totemic stage design from necromancers The Reliquarium, multi-media light and visual show from digital wizard Vin Pugliese and a curated musical lineup from each corner of the country. This is our CHEEN album release and we will have physical copies of the album available as well as exclusive prints with album artwork. We invite you to be a part of the spectacle with us Tuesday, October 31st.” – lespecial
The highlights of the night will be the grand reveal of lespecial’s new album, CHEEN (Spotify player below), as well as their live collaboration with legendary hip-hop outfit Zion I. Ahead of the show, we caught up with Luke of lespecial to ask him a couple questions about the band’s recent developments.
Sound Fix: Hey Luke – lespecial’s recent collaboration with Zion I both in the studio and on stage has been an interesting new chapter in the band’s history. How did this relationship come to fruition?
Luke Bemand: Our agent had suggested us to Zion I as being his backing band for some shows. We started working on his music and when we got together to rehearse at our music school/rehearsal space in Millerton called The Music Cellar, we really vibed. The set at Great North had a real raw and vibrant energy that was tangible. We knew we had to keep it going, so we collaborated for a track on our new album and are going to be doing a collaboration set for the second time ever at lespectacle. It’s been a humbling experience working with such a prolific MC, and to combine our worlds.
Sound Fix: Tell us about CHEEN. How long has this album been in the works? Where was it recorded? How does it compare to your previous discography?
Luke Bemand: We recorded CHEEN at Applehead Studios in Woodstock, NY in between shows on our summer tour. This album represents the next evolution of lespecial. Some of the tracks we’ve been playing live for a while, and some are brand new and have never been heard. We consider it to be the freshest music we’ve ever recorded. So fresh and so cheen. We can’t wait to unleash the cheen to the world.
