When BangOn!NYC released the lineup for its 3rd annual ELEMENTS Music Festival in Brooklyn this summer, we were excited to see Gramatik as the headliner, but even more excited to see Opiuo supporting him as an undercard. For those not familiar with Opiuo, his name is Oscar Davey-Wraight, he’s from New Zealand, he currently lives in Australia, and his Glitch-Hop music kicks ass. Opiuo produced and mastered a new LP called Omniversal earlier this year, and is scheduled to release the project this Friday (June 3rd). To build anticipation for the new album, Opiuo released its first single, “Sneakers,” three months ago. You can check it out below.
The purpose of this post, however, is to push his newest single, “Jelly,” out to the masses. This track bangs. I’ve often described Opiuo to people who don’t know him as the Oceanic love child of Tipper and Pretty Lights. In addition, Opiuo’s musical sensibility extends far beyond the confines of a DJ booth. He’s performed with “The Opiuo Live Band” in the past, where he masterfully showcased an ability to translate his electronic manipulations into a live form. I’m personally stoked to see him live for the first time at ELEMENTS on Saturday, August 13th in Brooklyn. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity for some awesome live, outdoor music. Tickets here, more information here, and the new track, “Jelly” below.
