Pink Talking Fish Announces Its Fall Tour and New Year’s Hometown Performance

One of our personal favorite bands, Pink Talking Fish, just announced a massive Fall Tour and New Year’s Eve party at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston, which will feature the music of Michael Jackson, as well as support from Natalie Cressman (trombone, Trey Anastasio Band) and James Casey (saxophone, Trey Anastasio Band). To top off the New Year’s soiree, an amazing Grateful Dead cover band from Somerville, MA, called Bearly Dead will kick the night off with some nostalgic tunes. This will be Pink Talking Fish’s largest tour to date, and we really couldn’t be more excited for the guys.

I tell this story time and time again to anyone I come in contact with whenever Pink Talking Fish comes up in conversation: it was about 3 AM on a Monday morning last September and the last Catskill Chill at the original Camp Minglewood was winding down. My friends and I were cuddled up at our campsite, drinking some beers under the stars and rehashing stories and new memories from that year’s festival. We see a guy with long hair and a Patriots sweatshirt walk over to our campsite with an acoustic guitar slung around his neck. This wandering artist was Dave Brunyak, lead guitarist of Pink Talking Fish. He and his bandmates had just wrapped up a classic Pink Talking Fish set at Minglewood, so we immediately greeted him with hugs, beers, and beaming smiles. From there, Dave introduced us to this game called “The Alphabet Game,” which is simple game for listeners, but one that involves some serious skill for the musician. In the simplest of terms, we would yell out a letter, and Dave, being a master cover musician, would pick out a song from his imagination and perform an acoustic cover that started with that letter for our group. I remember Dave performed “Eyes of the World” when I yelled out the letter, “E,” and for some bizarre reason I had never heard that Grateful Dead song. It’s now my favorite Dead tune, so I personally feel in debt to Dave and Pink Talking Fish for perfecting Catskill Chill last summer.

Anyways, that’s just the kind of band and the type of people Eric (bass), Dave (guitar), Richard (keys), and Zack (drums) really are. They’re a group who truly cares about their fans, and that mindfulness shines through the meticulous thought they commit while planning out each of their unique fusion cover sets.

The next time we’ll be seeing Pink Talking Fish is at this weekend’s Backwoods Pondfest in Peru, New York. This is a true community festival that holds a special place in my heart. It’s host band is Lucid, an incredible “Wood Rock” band from Plattsburgh, New York, and is run by Lowell Wurster of Lucid, Katie Bazanno, Chris Boire, and our friends from Full Circle Music Productions. Backwoods introduced me to the one and only Blind Owl Band, who are scheduled to rock out two times this upcoming weekend. We also discovered Sophistafunk and deepened our preexisting love for Pigeons Playing Ping Pong at last summer’s Pondfest, so we’re truly excited to catch Pink Talking Fish at such a special arena this weekend. Online ticketing for Pondfest is closed, but passes are available at the gate for incredibly reasonable prices. Check out all information about Pondfest here, and make sure to study PTF’s Fall Tour and remaining Summer Tour below to pinpoint the location near you! Hope to see some friendly faces this weekend!
