This Friday in Brooklyn the Midwestern independent label ThazDope Records will showcase their roster of up-and-coming experimental bass producers to a horde of receptive New York electronic enthusiasts. The host venue for this forward-thinking event couldn’t be more fitting – The Paper Box in East Williamsburg (sometimes referred to as Bushwick) has gradually developed a reputation for incubating far-out, futuristic sound. The last time we enjoyed this venue was during lespecial‘s annual lespectacle music festival, where the genre-defying trio of experimental metal musicians hosted a night complete with bass DJs like Brooklyn’s tsimba, instrumentally animated electronic music by the Supersillyus Life Band, and reactionary heavy rock sets from Ross Jenssen and the host band itself.
For Friday’s event fittingly titled “The Secret Stash,” ThazDope Records in conjunction with New York-based promoter The Saucy Monster will fully utilize the entire space with visuals from the infamous LoDurr, a slew of quality vendors including Bankduds, The Paplin’s Provisions, FanThreads, Sankloth, and New York Dancesafe, and most importantly a lineup chalk-full of producers who see no boundaries. Headlining the ThazDope Showcase is Ives from Nashville, Philadelphia’s Digital Ethos, a rare Smokestax b2b Brainrack set, Timmy Walker aka Mindset, and Beardthug. These upper-echelon underground visionaries will be supported by Jizzy Fra, Pluto Era, Yakooza, BMO (Live Band Set), Krook, Stubbs, and Kuhlin b2b Yung Kloth.15-year boom-bap hip hop veteran MC SympL from Jacksonville, North Carolina will keep the night flowing smoothly as the event’s featured MC. The promoters put together a tight SoundCloud playlist to serve as a wine-tasting of sorts for this impending bass music extravaganza.
Not a single quality electronic music event would be complete without what could be considered a headliner in itself: the sound system. And true to form, ThazDope and The Saucy Monster are delivering one of the finest sonic installments the East Coast has to offer – the one-and-only Funktion-One Sound. If you’ve ever been to Brooklyn’s storied Output Nightclub, then you’ve fully experienced the prestige of these speakers. Alongside Tsunami Bass and Hennessey Sound Design, Funktion-One has a reputation for powering the best events with the most precise frequencies. You really couldn’t ask for a better system.
To cap off the entire experience ThazDope is adding its hallmark special touch by inviting wellness speakers to help underscore the therapeutic value dancing and bass music can have on its patrons. Doors will open at The Paper Box at 10pm and the music will pulsate until the wee hours of the morning (scheduled until 5am). Our friends at Good Looks Collective are ticketing the event with their acclaimed new platform, The Ticketing Co. Tickets are still available and can be purchased here for the incredibly fair price of $20. See you at the show.
