SunSquabi Releases a New Collaboration with Dominic Lalli

I’m really feeling the Boulder-based Jamtronica act, SunSquabi, as of late. I first came across the band last year when when they were featured on, “Get Down,” one of my favorite tracks from GRiZ’s instant classic, Say It Loud. After putting a little research into the group, I quickly realized they’re made of everything I love in a musical outfit: enough electronic dance elements to make the hairs on my neck prick up, but also enough instrumentation to make me feel comfortable buying a ticket to a live performance.

This Friday, Chris Anderson (drums), Andrew Clymer (bass/synth) and Kevin Donohue (guitar/keys/production) are scheduled to release their inaugural project via GRiZ’s All Good Records. The record’s titled the Odyssey EP, and just based off the four singles we’ve heard so far (find them on Soundcloud here), this will be a $5.00 you should be excited to spend. Just a few days ago, the guys released their newest single, “Tequila Mockingbird,” featuring a silky smooth sax performed by Big Gigantic’s Dominic Lalli. Our favorite moment of the song starts at 3:10, when the band calms the music down, then starts to add some layers, pushes a nice crescendo, then breaks the build at 3:42, only to launch into a powerful Dom solo. Perfect break, perfect climax, awesome improvisation. This song kicks ass. Check it out below, and make sure to pre-order the Odyssey EP right here to show these up-and-comers some support.
